This project is a collaboration between Waste Management, the City of Omaha, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. It’s a multi-faceted approach to tackling climate change. The project will utilize the methane gas produced by the waste in the landfills. This gas is a potent greenhouse gas, but it’s also a valuable resource. Waste Management will be responsible for collecting the methane gas from the landfills. They will then use a process called anaerobic digestion to convert the methane into renewable energy.

It’s a renewable gas facility that will help the landfill avoid 50,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year. This project is part of Waste Management’s larger initiative to reduce its environmental impact. The company has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This facility will be a significant step towards that goal.
